The Ryan Lawn & Tree Podcast

In this episode, Matt Evans sits down with Nels Carlson, RYAN’s third-party ESOP trustee, to break down the role a trustee plays in an employee-owned company. Nels explains his responsibilities and how the trustee works to represent the interests of RYAN’s individual employee-owners. It’s a straightforward look at an important part of how our ESOP works behind the scenes.

In this episode, Matt Evans sits down with RYAN founder Larry Ryan to discuss the decision he and Kathy made to transition the company to employee ownership. Larry shares how his upbringing on a farm, his Christian faith, and the values that shaped his life aligned naturally with the principles of an ESOP. Hear the story behind a decision that helped protect RYAN’s culture, reward its employees, and build a legacy of shared ownership for generations to come.

Have you ever gone outside to view your lawn masterpiece, only to see that the lawn is turning brown? If this is the case, you could be dealing with Brown Patch fungus in your turf. In this episode, Matt Evans interviews Dr. Rodney St. John on identification, causes and remedies, for Brown Patch.

This is the time of the year when turf needs to be mowed on its schedule, not ours. During the months of April and May, we may need to mow as much as twice a week to keep the yard looking and performing its best. In this episode, Matt Evans and Dr. Rodney St. John, discuss our Mow Reducer application, which can help reduce the time between mowings during the spring flush of growth.

Boxwoods are a mainstay of the Midwest landscape. According to a 2020 study from the Horticulture Research Institute, Boxwoods were the #1 evergreen shrub sold in the United States. Today, Matt is joined by Bill Dooley, a Plant Health Care expert here at RYAN, to discuss what it takes to maintain healthy boxwoods.

Along with all the other things we need to do for our landscapes to get them ready for the season, we need to consider our irrigation systems. In many of the markets we serve, this means activating our clients’ irrigation systems, setting the controllers for spring weather, and verifying that all the components are working properly. In this episode, Matt Evans is joined by Irrigation Specialist Andy Marsh, and will be discussing what changes need to take place as we transition into the warmer and dryer months of summer.
